Easter in the Philippines is real. You can see the Easter story being played out live in many areas around the country. It really brings Easter alive and makes the Christian thankful for all Christ had to endure for them. A lot of those involved in the reenactments are doing it for penance or to get God to bless their families for the year or some other personal reason. It is sad that they think they can help themselves and miss the whole point of Easter. Jesus did it all! It starts on Palm Sunday with the priests blessing peoples palms which they in turn hang on their doors to protect their houses from evil for the year. Then Easter weekend you can find people beating themselves to pay for their sins and even getting hung on a cross with nails through their hands as penance or promise to God in return for His favor of some kind. Pray we continue to be a light of truth here in this culture.
